What it is all about

Referring back to my 5 thingies about me entry, you read that #5 said that I was still involve with Boy Scouts.
This is somewhat true. I say somewhat because I am no longer active in the troop in my area (that I myself began). Due to my military training I have decided to take a break from scouting.
Anyway, yesterday about 4pm I get a call from the troop secretary.
S - "Hey Kyle. did you kow that there was a Court of Honor (promotion ceremony)tonight?"
K - "Hey Tammy. I knew there was going to be one but have no idea what time."
S - "Well the rehersal starts at 6. Did you know that you have a part to say?"
K - "Fuck me in the goat ass what? Who's idea was this?"
S - "I guess that since you began the troop they want you to be there and take part. They have you in the program. You didn't get an invitation either did you?"
K - "No, no I didn't. 6 o'clock you say. Alright, I'll be there but this is going down MY way."
S - "Good! Can I get a ride with you and Nikki?"
K- "Sure, come on over about 5:45. Bye"
There were a few more choice words there but you get the idea. At this time I'm pissed, Nikki is pissed, Tammy is pissed, and everyone that will be there will be recieving a shock.
Tammy comes over, she lives directly behind us, and brings the outline for the evenings events. Everything is scripted out. Which makes me more angry. Nobody is going to script out what I am going to say. Besides, what was written sounded stupid.
We arrived at the locale a little past 6 and walked in like nothing was wrong. I stayed in the background until asked my opinion on where the table for the awards should be. That is when I took over. I had to people change the entire set up and made it look better.
I constructed my own versions of the way things would go. I did follow the format that was in the program for the parents of the boys so nothing seemed any different to them. i just messed up the minor details so that the person who put the evening together would know that she was not the end all and be all. The alpha and omega if you will.
Things actualy truned out rather well. The boys got their rewards and ice cream and I got my kicks.
I just want to say that I had no problem withthe boys. In fact everything about last night was for the boys and I made sure that nobody screwed it up. I may have seemed selfish and cocky. Well I was, a little. I had put too much time, effort, blood, sweat, and care in that troop to let some one else tell me how to reward my troop.
The boys know who I am and what I am about. I am proud of those boys. They are going to make great leaders someday.
I was also recognised by the district last night. I recieved this plaque

from the district and the troop. As long as I am here I will always be watching them and helping those boys. Because that is what it is all about.
